Our History

CHS Home Support Services is the result of a merger in 2001 between two sister companies both founded by Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, New York. The first organization was begun in 1992 and named Samaritan Home Infusion Services. It was started as a home infusion pharmacy, based in the hospital, to service the patients discharged from Good Samaritan Hospital and facilitate the transition from hospital to home.

The program continued to grow based upon its clinical expertise and excellent customer service. Today the infusion program is based in our facility in Hauppauge and services patients requiring IV:
· Antibiotics
· Chemotherapy treatments
· Tocolytic therapies for pre-term labor patients
· Hydration
· Enteral feedings
· Catheter maintenance
· Nebulizer medications
· Pain management
· Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN)

There is a pharmacist and nurse on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our company maintains a unique clinical structure including a superior team of Nurse Clinical Coordinators who are closely involved with the initial referral and ongoing management of our patients. We also work closely with Good Shepherd Hospice.

The second company, Samaritan Respiratory In-Home Services, was founded in 1993. At that time the company was housed in Good Samaritan Hospital and was limited to only respiratory services such as nebulizers, CPAP/BiPAP and oxygen therapy. With the growth of the company and in order to service a growing need in the community, a line of home medical equipment was launched in 1995. Initially the company provided basic medical equipment to Suffolk and Nassau patients. With the success of that venture, the company expanded its service line to include more home medical devices such as ADL equipment, pediatric equipment, and bariatric services. To address the needs of our system hospitals and patients, we have expanded our respiratory program services to include a home ventilator program, COPD program, and a wide array of oxygen conserving devices and oxygen concentrators.

As the Catholic Health Services system evolved and the companies grew in size, the Samaritan In-Home Respiratory Services office was moved to a location in Farmingdale. In continuing to meet the needs of our hospital system and community referral sources, this division of the company began servicing Queens in 2002.

Currently, in 2006, we service over 1000 oxygen patients, 400 infusion therapy patients and have developed a well defined distribution system which enables us to make over 2500 deliveries monthly. We have developed a fleet of vehicles and a team of patient service technicians, customer service representatives, respiratory therapists, nurses, pharmacists, and support staff to meet these growing needs.
